Its a Broody life

Hi Everyone,

Hope I didn't get your hopes up too much by changing the Blog photo!  Thought a nice change would be good.

Lots going on here at the farm in way of Chicken news.  I've got three new chicks, all hatched out
last week, and the little darlings are already starting to 'feather' out.  I think they need to since the weather has been so darn miserable the past few days!  These babies are from Lost the rescue rooster and probably Missy, Pharoh and Squab. Its so nice to have a rooster that works again! I think I will get some really nice colours in the next few years.
Clone and her first chick to hatch this year (still nameless)

Large yellow chick (not yet named)
Last Saturday the family took a drive into Princeton (ON not BC) to pick up some Silver Lace Wyndotte eggs, as I have two bantam hens ready to be mothers. Both hens are sitting on 6 eggs each, plus Mother Hubbard is sitting on two bantam eggs, so hopefully I will have a large hatch this spring.
(Large for us anyway)

Cheap sitting on her eggs (only has six)

Mother Hubbard sitting on 8 eggs
Luckily neither Bantam will try and take your fingers off your hand, just some
gentle feather ruffles and screeching and the odd sad little peck.
I will keep you updated on how all this goes.
thanks for visiting

Another Card

Hi Everyone,

Here is a card I did up a few days ago. I'm not quite sure it fits what theme I'm planning on with Marcia's cards for the English Shepherd Gathering in Iowa this July, but I like it anyway. The inside has "You are my Sunshine on a rainy day"

I dunno - what do you think - Eh?

Have a good evening - see you all later.
Hug a Friend,
Barbara

Trip around the yard

Before it rains (or hails) I grabbed the camera and took a walk around the yard and found some treasures. The weather is finally at the normal temps for spring like weather, and it is cool and breezy with smiggens of sun peaking through...

In the summer our family would walk by a beautiful Garden Spider and her web. As the months went by we watched the procedure of the life of this spider, from finding a mate to laying an egg sac, and the protection she gave to the sac until her dimise this past winter.  This is what the egg sac looks like today. I can't wait to see if baby spiders emerge from it later this spring.

We have many different plants and shrubs planted along a walk way that is cut around the yard.   The walk way is kept cut short all summer long and occassionally we will cut paths through the field (10,000 x 10,000 area) so the kids, cats and dogs can cut through without any problems. This is the wild flower field we let grow long and tall, it is beauitful during the summer months, attracting all kinds of birds and butterfiles. Along the cut walkway there have been small gardens put in, some in the corner of the property and some along the edges, these are some of the spring bulbs planted in the gardens and are currently coming up.
back corner garden

The back corner garden is reserved for burying our loved pets. Chloe and Magie are laid to rest here. It is our tribute to our loved pets of the past.
This Daff was so lovely I decided to use it as my Blog Header today!

Daffs in back garden
This is what the skies looked liked about 1pm today. There has been the threat of rain &/or hail today. So far we haven't been rained on here, but I did get caught in a hail storm while running for groceries today in town.

Another View of the Sky and farm across the creek from us. This is where Jaco lives.

LugWort - Ugly name - beautiful spring plant!
It has varigated leaves that become quite a bit darker during the summer months.

What walk in the yard wouldn't be complete without an English Shepherd staring at you!
This is Lily and we think she is beautiful.

Another beautiful spring flower, these are usually one of the first of the Perennials to come out each spring. I have them planted straight back garden from the house. You can see them when I look out the
kitchen window.

Well that certainly was a great walk around, thanks for dropping by.

Yummy!

Remembering - Card 2

Hi Everyone,
Remember I decided to do up six cards for the Iowa English Shepherd Gathering to be held in July of 2012?  This is the second card in the series of six.

Here's a peek inside...

Enjoy and hug your friend....
