69 is a Good Year

About the end of December every winter, we (Jon & I) anticipate the fun of one of our favorite rides -our '69 Jeep snow plow.

You see, whenever we are in a pickle with the weather ,we take out our little Faithful orange plow. Best known as "The nittle plow', out of the driveshed where it has been 'wintering' all summer, and enjoy a real old fashion Jeep ride. It is one of our favorite pastimes of the winter to spend time together in the cab of the jeep and just talk about the days events.

While this ride is only in our driveway and the concession road infront of our house, I'm sure you'll argee it is the best view in the world to us! With the current weather upon us, the "nittle plow" is getting her full workout this winter.

With all this snow Day weather we can't wait for our ride again tonight!

Cheers! and thanks for checking in,

Barbara

My Card

Finally, after painfully trying to decide on what card to make this year, I've come up with my 'final answer'. The path down the card decision road has been a hair pulling, and downright frustrating adventure, since there are so many new and great techniques and fads that come and go in the crafting world.
This nice simple card is made with Co'redinations, (paper I bought on a whim over a year ago) this cute little cat stamp (from Impression Obsession) and some Glitter Ritz.

We've had a lot of snow and cold weather, and the kids have been out building snow forts and digging trenches, and it is perfect weather to build Christmas Cards with a hot Chocolate.

Merry Christmas & thanks for checking out my blog and have a great Monday.

Under Construction

Hi - this blog is undergoing a face lift, which in real life I could use myself (if it was only that easy!) Anyway, I'm going through a bunch of things and hopefully I will get my blog sorted out to be more entertaining than I have been for the past 10 months. I have been doing a lot, so much in fact I just don't have the time to type it all out.

such as life.
thanks for stopping in.

A friend indeed

I didn't realize how much an 'Internet' friend could mean so much to me. I mean, really if you never met the person how much could you really know them? or miss them since it really is only words that are written and I actually never met the person face to face. I found out this past weekend how much a good and dear Internet friend meant to me when I lost her to a tragic accident.

A long time friend died last Friday night while trying to save her puppy from drowing in a tank well in Iowa.

I 'knew' Marcia for about 6-7 years, and through those years as like many other people, we became close friends, chatting about this and that, not just dog events, but other things we had in common. She became a familar 'voice' to me on Fridays, when we would routinly exchange e-mails telling about our busy week gone by or the plans for the weekend ahead. We would laugh at each others comments about our dogs, our families and sometimes our relationships. We comforted each other when we were feeling low. I only talked to her once on the phone, and we never met.

One of the very last e-mails was mention of having to meet each other one of these days, now that will never happen. I will miss her, as she brought a little laughter to a chaotic day, she provided me with something to look forward to after a busy work week, and she was one of those friends that doesn't come along very often.

Something to Crow about

Today I have to warn you that I'm not censoring myself....

We have several chickens. Actually, we have more chickens than I know what to do with, at the moment. So when the Bantam hens all decided to go broody one right after the other, we had several different stages of baby chicks that needed care away and safe from the older birds or flock. We've spent about the last 6 weeks taking chicks and their mothers back and forth between a dog crate they live in during the night, to the chicken run outside. This way they all get used to the run, and get some outdoor time, and the older birds start to get used to the idea that new birds are here to stay. Since chickens are stupid and also very mean, everything needs to be done gradually, in order to keep peace and not ruffle any tail feathers.

I have two coops, one is Moe's House, which houses Moe, our Barred Plymouth Rock Standard Rooster, three fairly ancient birds, along with Mother Hubbard, who lately just wants to sit around in a nest all day in a trance, and four new additions from this springs hatch; Raven, Sunshine, Skunk, and Clone (she looks just like Mother Hubbard). The other coop, "Toe Eggs" coop named for the size the Bantam eggs, and my poor abilities to pick out the correct number of letters to make a proper sign for the coop. It houses the rest of the chicken gang, which is 5 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Barred rocks, and a gaggle of Bantams and Randy, the appropriately named Bantam Barred Rock coloured Rooster. He's a jerk.

Lately this summer, Randy has decided to take over the entire Chicken run from Moe. So often enough I would go out and find Moe standing in a corner away from Randy, with a sore butt, obviously pecked at when Randy catches up to him. The amusing thing about all of this is the fact that Moe is about four times the size of Randy, yet Randy can move Moe off almost everything and put Moe on the run. Randy is just a little jerk. He's not what I call a mean Rooster, since he's won't come flying at you like some roosters can be like, but he's not like Moe either, he's just tame enough to stand. If he keeps up this new activitiy of harrassing Moe, his life may end up as a really nice tasty stew. He's just got that 'little jerk' way about him.

Now Randy has developed an interesting crow as he matured. Not the usually Cock-a-doodle- doo that so many people are used to, but he's got a really long crow, like a last bit gets added to the end. It goes something like this" Cock-a-diddle-doo- doo." We often would chuckle at this odd crow, something I've not ever heard before on any rooster, and the other day we put a sentance to it, like he's annoucing his way most appropriately for his territory, to sound like this..

All tired out...

This week has been busy. When I wasn't processing Trial Results or whisking children off to soccer games/practice, I was taking my dog to be bred. After a huge 'game' of 'here it is.... you can't have it!" between Sandie and her prospective mate, we are happy to report we will be having a litter this summer/fall. Not without frustration on the boy dog's side of life.

Tic Toc

Hey everyone,

if you don't know by now and don't live life in Coldstream or Poplar Hill, then you don't know about the next picnic lip sinc. This is where local kids from Valleyviel School participate in many events over the afternoon, and then later in the day a Lip Sinc Competition. Mary is performing the hit song Tic Toc for this years' lip sinc for Poplar Hill picnic. Here is photo of last years winning performance as "Hillary Puff" singing "Happy" in 2009!

We are Jeep-Family

Sorry for the time span between postings...life is like that.

Well the weather has finally arrived to make changes to Jon's Jeep (also known as Precious). The family really knows when the summer time has truly hit, when both the hard top and the doors are ripped off Precious, and this usually calls for a celebratory drive down the concession, or some fun playing with the big toy!

Boys still enjoy their toys. Me thinks this may be the start of a new found hobby.

Rain Rain go away....

No , not really, in fact, I enjoy a good rain. Not a storm -A storm is much different than what I grew up with. I mean a good ol fashion rain that lasts, oh lets say, about 20 days or more. (yeah, in a row)

You see, I'm orginally from the Left Coast, where it can be grey, gloomy and rainy most of the time and everyone gets all excited about blue sky showing in the sky the odd time.

Today we had a good ol fashion Vancouver rain, as usual it turned into a thunderstorm later in the day, which is just okay by Gyp's standards, since she loves to chase thunder away.....

This is suppose to last the entire weekend, which really is a disappointment for some, but not for this West Coast gal.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by - Barbara

Sitting Pretty

Well, here I am blogging you. I said I'd never do it, besides who has time to sit and read blogs all day? Nonetheless, here I am blogging you all anyway. I promise to keep them short and sweet!

My first blog is about my 'other' hobby, which is chicken fancy. I have a small flock and currently I have another banty named 'Oprah' this spring that has gone broody. I've spent better part of the morning trying to sort out Oprah's problems of being kicked out of her nest by the other birds when they come to set. Getting kicked out of a nest really gets Ophrah's panties in quite a knot!

I've finally decided to seperate her from the flock, so I put her in a small dog Kennel with food and water where she can set for the next 21 days in peace.

Thanks for visiting and Have a great day- Barbara
